What am I playing this week?

A new and highly addictive find called “Desktop Dungeons.”

It’s yet another sprite-based rogue-like,* but unlike the others reviewed on this blog, there’s only one level to the dungeon, so each adventure takes between five and fifteen minutes.

It’s cute, it’s entertaining, and there’s enough unlockable content that I keep going back to play it again and again. And it’s HARD. Even the creator admits that he doesn’t win every time he plays.

[* To clarify, “sprite-based” means that the graphics use two-dimensional images that are integrated into a larger whole. And a rogue-like is a randomly generated dungeon delve named after the eponymous Rogue which is turn-based and has the potential for permanent death. No saving your progress when you fail.]
